Welcome back, we took a break from providing you daily XR news and are back at it today! Sony recently revealed in several social media posts its upcoming headset in early 2023, sparking speculation on the new device.
So what exactly did they say and what does that mean for us? Well for starters they shared some 3D renders that got everyone buzzing on social media (check out the images below). Further speculation discussions focused on how the PSVR 2 system aims to contend with leading headset manufacturers such as Meta Platforms, Valve Index and Pico Interactive, who are releasing their Project Cambria, Deckard, and Neo 3 Link devices within the next year or so.
Furthermore, one veteran Apple Analyst (Ming-Chi Kuo) tweeted late in May that supply chain checks found the PSVR 2 would "start mass production with about 1.5M shipments" in the second half of 2022, with plans to launch in the first quarter of 2023.
